Cute Star Wars ABC

January 6, 2009

Artist Michael Fleming of tweedlebop illustrated a super-cute Star Wars alphabet set. Greatest part about it is that it uses the Aurebesh language rather than English to teach kids how to spell “Bantha” or “IG-88“.

I have been meaning to post about music that needs to be shared, but our house is a house of music consumers. There is no way I could keep up with all the music we listen to. But I guess we should at least try. I’ve done a couple artist shares on my personal blog, and you can also check out my radio station at blip.fm. But it is high time to bring the music to you – the consumer.

To inaugurate this area of PinkOnBrown, I only thought it appropriate to share one of our favorites – if not favorite overall.

Wisp

Reid Dunn, who produces under the name Wisp, is a stunning electronic musician that hails from Niagara Falls, New York. Wisp began making music on his computer in 1999 and originally released his music for free as mp3s on Netlabels before being signed to Sublight Records. He is now signed with Rephlex records, the music label started by musician Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin), and has just released an album with them titled Katabatic.

His music is most melodic electronic music, mixing glitch and breakcore seamlessly into a orchestral combination that is easy on the ears and fun for the feet. Some tracks abound with sounds of chamber music, bells, celtic strings, and classic music; others flow with the dark rhythms and hard style that comes more from the dance circuit. This is an artist that has no tracks that I dislike. Everything I’ve heard so far is amazing – track after track of solid platinum.

You can download most of Reid’s early work, all completely free, from The Wisp Archive. You can also download some free albums from earstroke, a netlabel I highly recommend, or their Archive.org page.

For your listening pleasure, I have included the track Shep Shaep Sheep from Wisp’s album In A Blue Face which is also free for download:

Andy Gilmore

June 18, 2008

I’ve been checking out some of Andy Gilmore’s work today after seeing some images on dog’S faint (some NSFW). Wonderful and colorful experiments with lines – very fractal at times.

Also, check out his Etsy shop.

I stumbled upon this amazing video of two young DJs from Japan. Behold the awesome power of DJ Sarah and DJ Ryusei.

In that video, they are 8 and 5, respectively. Absolutely stunning. Read the rest of this entry »

I love these striking narrative photos done by Jennifer Zwick. Absolutely delightful! I think my favorite one is called “The Dream”.

I love these brilliant robot paintings by Brian Despain. The color and subjects are really well done – and the absurdism is very attractive. Here’s are some other ones I loved. (via RightSomeGood)
